Cheese Pizza Topped With Cotton Candy? Yum!

In Japan, the onset of spring is synonymous with the cherry blossom, or sakura, season. To attract some of the thousands of locals and tourists that flock to parks to see the beautiful [...] two-week bloom, many restaurants offer sakura inspired specialties.
This year, the chefs [...] created a cotton candy pizza. [...] the thin crust pie is just like any other cheese pizza, except for one thing — it is topped with a mound of pink cotton candy sprinkled with cherry blossom petals. Before taking a bite, customers are asked to drizzle the delicious-looking pie with some honey ginger sauce that melts the spun sugar and blends it into the cheese. [...]

My Cat Knows Karate

My cat knows karate.
My frog knows kung fu.
My poodle knows judo.
My turtle does too.

They all became black belts
by watching TV;
some Chuck Norris movies,
and films with Bruce Lee.
They liked learning lessons
from Jean-Claude Van Damme,
and acting like action-film star
Jackie Chan.

They practiced their punches,
their blocks, and their kicks
until they were masters
of martial arts tricks.

You’d think they’d be good now
at guarding our house,
but, yesterday morning,
they ran from my mouse.

My mouse is a crack-up.
I laughed at his prank.
Do you think it’s weird that
my mouse drives a tank?

Black hole in our galaxy

Eight synchronized radio telescopes worked together around the world to capture the firstbimage of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy. The Event Horizon Telescope gave scientists the first look our black hole; scientists call it the Sagittarius A star. The image shows a bright ring that surrounds the darkness, the telltale shadow of the black hole. The object is four million times the size of our Sun, and the ring is about 60 million kilometers, roughly the size of Mercury’s path around our star.
The image doesn’t actually show the black hole but the material, gas, and dust that it is swallowing in real time. Nobody knows what happens in the center of a black hole or at the edge of it because the black hole’s gravity is under extreme conditions. The image can teach scientists how matter behaves under these conditions, and it can help them understand the nature of gravity itself.

The Science of Puppy Love

In California, a dog named Glimmer works with children in a hospital. “Sometimes the first smile of the day is because Glimmer has walked into the room,” says Jennifer Johnson, Glimmer’s handler.
Playing with and petting a dog helps the children get well. How? Scientists found that dogs help our brains and bodies feel better. When we are playing with or petting a dog (and other pets), our brains make a special chemical. This chemical makes us feel more relaxed and loved. It also helps us better handle things that may make us feel upset.
